Cornée et segment antérieur (CHUM)

Description du programme

Le fellowship de cornée CHUM s’étend sur un an et se déroule au Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (clientèle adulte) et au Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte- Justine (enfants), deux hôpitaux de l’Université de Montréal. Le fellow développe une expertise dans le diagnostic et le traitement médical et chirurgical d’affections variées de la cornée et des maladies externes de l’œil, des plus courantes aux plus complexes. La formation chirurgicale comprend la greffe pénétrante, la reconstruction du segment antérieur et de la surface oculaire (greffe de cellules souches), l’implantation de lentilles intraoculaires suturées, la greffe lamellaire (DMEK, DSAEK, DALK), la kératoprothèse et les cornées artificielles ainsi que le traitement du ptérygion, des tumeurs de la surface oculaire, ainsi que les kératectomies et réticulation du collagène cornéen (crosslinking). De plus, le fellow peut participer aux cliniques et observer la chirurgie réfractive à LASIKMD – Vision Group Canada.

Bourses

Des bourses sont destinées aux résidents du Québec. D’autres bourses sont réservées aux étudiants canadiens et américains. Enfin, le candidat étranger pourrait se voir accorder l’une des bourses de formation du département.

Participation à la formation des résidents

Les activités d’enseignement incluent la participation à des conférences et à des séances de revue de la littérature (journal clubs).

Recherche

Le fellow est fortement encouragé à élaborer un projet de recherche qui peut être de type clinique ou fondamental.
Temps alloué à la recherche est d’une demi-journée à une journée par semaine.
La publication et les présentations de projets de recherche sont encouragées.
Le fellow aura l’opportunité de participer à des études internationales telles que ZEDS et KPro.
